Hospital Update

So far we are about the same. We are still waiting on the spinal cultures to come back. The neurologist seems to be leaning towards Acute cerebellar ataxia.

Acute cerebellar ataxia (Post infectious acute cerebellitis): It is usually seen in children between 2 to 7 years with a very sudden onset. It is often preceded by an exanthema (varicella), infectious mononucleosis or other viral infections (polio, mumps, coxsackie, herpes, simplex or ECHO viruses). It is thought to occur due to an autoimmune response to the viral agent. Ataxia is maximum at the onset. Symptoms are non – progressive for a couple of days or weeks and then subside. (Recovery may take 3 weeks to 5 months). Recovery is usually complete. It is a diagnosis of exclusion. Tendon reflexes are usually present (absence may suggest Miller Fisher syndrome). It’s a self-limiting condition and treatment is usually not required.

She had an infection at the end of August and again thursday so we are not sure which infection it stems from but possibly the one back in August. The blessing is no treatment is required and it just takes time for the myelin to reform over the nerves. She is still running fever off and on and as you can tell the i.v. fluid was making her swell so they reduced the amount she was getting. The redness is a reaction to one of the antibiotics she is getting so they gave her benadryl to reduce the redness.

She has been such a trooper. It hurts my heart to see her like this. I wish I could take her pain away.

She loves her lovey and likes to put it on her face to block out everything else.
Daddy spoiling her. She is so content and calm when daddy is brushing her hair. Thank you Jason for being so strong for us both and loving us.

She only last moving around for short periods and then she is ready to rest and relax.
